2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Follows Poor Reception

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed team members about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a more defined direction.

The president noted that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

This announcement echoes a comparable step taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock development group.

I understand you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”

Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game playtest was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a sharper vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our fans.

The belief in this project strengthens every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the latest Director of the team. After several months of discussions, he starts with us on the specified date.

His guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years developing and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

The appointee presently holds the position of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously worked at major gaming companies in multiple development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, before that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Vision

The upcoming game was revealed in last year alongside a community playtest. Initially, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative evolution on the style."

Project Ethos does not have an announced release date or platforms, but players can anticipate more updates as production advances.
