Los Angeles Battles Unprecedented Heat Just One Week Following Major Winter Weather.

After enduring significant rainfall that led to inundation across parts of the city, the City of Angels is now confronting abnormally high temperatures for late February.

All-Time High Readings

By Friday afternoon, the thermometer soared to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in the city center, as reported by weather officials. This breaks the prior high for February 27th, which was 88°F (31°C) and was recorded just last year.

"Unusually high temperatures" were labeled on forecast maps for the region.

Safety Advisories

The weather service issued a warning that Friday's weather posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their advice featured:

  • Staying hydrated.
  • Reducing outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
  • Never leaving kids or animals unattended in a parked vehicle.

A Dramatic Weather Swing

This sudden spike in mercury arrives just after a powerful storm system that battered the area earlier in the week. That event brought heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to higher elevations, leading to mudslide risks for millions residents.

Tragically, the storm also resulted in a deadly avalanche in the Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.

Weekend Outlook

Looking ahead a cooldown will arrive. Temperatures were forecast to decrease to around 61°F (16°C) in central Los Angeles by overnight.

Other locales that reached ninety degrees featured Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Meanwhile, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were projected to see the high eighties.

For the weekend, central Los Angeles can expect weather in the 80s, with cooler weather expected for the week ahead.
